How Much Bigger Is a LWB VW T7?
The current VW T7 Transporter is available in two main lengths:
- SWB: approximately 5,050 mm long
- LWB: approximately 5,450 mm long
That means the LWB is around 400 mm, or 40 cm, longer.
It might not sound like a huge difference, but in a campervan every centimetre counts. Extra space can make a noticeable difference when you are fitting seating, storage, a kitchen, beds and all the equipment needed for touring.

The main advantage of the LWB T7 is simple: more space inside.
That additional 400 mm can be particularly valuable for families, larger groups or anyone planning extended touring holidays. It can provide more room for people, luggage and camping equipment, while making the living area feel less compact when everyone is inside the van.
Some of our LWB T7 campervans are also available with six travelling seats, which can make them particularly attractive to families or customers who regularly travel with friends or grandchildren.
An LWB may therefore suit you if interior space and touring comfort are more important than having the most compact vehicle possible.

SWB or LWB for Everyday Driving?
If your T7 campervan is going to double as your everyday vehicle, an SWB is likely to be the first option worth considering. The shorter dimensions make it easier to live with in towns, car parks and tighter spaces.
However, an LWB T7 is still a very manageable vehicle. If your campervan will mainly be used for holidays, weekends away and longer journeys, you may decide that the additional interior room is worth the extra length.
Which Is Best for Families?
For families, the LWB T7 has an obvious advantage when it comes to space.
The difference becomes particularly noticeable when several people are travelling together, carrying luggage or spending time inside the campervan during bad weather.
